The Rising Influence of Green Finance in the Irish Midwest
International financial professionals are playing an increasingly significant role in shaping Ireland's green economy — particularly outside Dublin.
Ireland's green finance sector is growing faster than the talent pipeline designed to support it. The skills gap is most acute outside Dublin, in the Midwest and South, where sustainable infrastructure projects are accelerating but qualified professionals remain scarce.
A growing proportion of that gap is being filled by internationally qualified professionals — people with green finance, environmental economics, and sustainable investment backgrounds who arrived in Ireland through other channels and found their expertise more in demand than expected.
DGS has connected 14 such professionals with Midwest employers in the past 18 months. All are in roles that align with or exceed their qualifications. The pattern is not accidental: it reflects deliberate work to make international expertise legible to Irish employers who have not traditionally recruited internationally.
